Given the buzz around the New Navara and the revelation that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I wanted to see what the difference is between the current frontier and the old D22 that may be coming to the US.

Kinja'd!!!

comparing largest and most powerful options (4x4 crew cab long bed with the largest non-supercharged engine) The D22 is

9 inches shorter wheelbase

2.4 inches shorter overall

1 inch narrower

3 inches less tall

500 lbs lighter

91 hp down

79 ft-lbs down

1 mpg city/combined down

2 mpg highway down

4.5 mpg real reported mileage down (fueleconomy.gov)

Hmmm, given that if its certified for sale in the US it will probably gain weight for crash reasons...im not sure its a compelling prospect. Its not smaller enough and its a terrible value unless its dirt cheap.

However, when you compare the smallest offering of the D22 to the smallest current frontier, it gets more interesting

Kinja'd!!!

10 inches shorter wheelbase

21.2 inches shorter

6.3 inches narrower (somehow)

11.4 inches less tall

470 lbs lighter

2 hp down

16 ft-lbs down

1 mpg better city/highway

5.2 mpg real world reported mileage UP

Maybe there is room in America for both trucks.

Even the D22's most powerful engine could not compete with comparable units these days. Its supercharged 3.3 put out 210 horses and 246 lb-ft. Hell that's four cylinder numbers these days!

I would imagine that with newer, more powerful and efficient engines dropped in the D22's lighter frame would make a marked improvement over the original D22's numbers. I, for one, welcome our new old overlords

I suspect they would just plop in the QR25DE from the current Frontier and call it a day. 152 hp and 171 ft-lbs is plenty if you are only planning on selling work class trucks. FYI 246 ft-lbs is the same torque as Honda's 3.5 V6 and at half the revs, granted those are supercharger numbers that drank gas like nothing else. I remember reading a review on the supercharged engine when it first came and the summary was something like "this disproves the notion that anything supercharged is fast"

You're probably right, though the thought of a small diesel coming into play is pretty delicious as well.

I think that would be the D22's biggest problem in coming here. If the NV200 got the small diesel we are hoping for, the economy advantage kinda goes away a little. There is no way the small diesel is coming in the D22, I can't even imagine it would fit.
